Finding Stillness In A Digital World

Finding stillness in today's world is hard. Technology literally follows us everywhere. Computers, phones, tablets the list goes on and on. It's safe to say it's easy to get lost in the digital world.

A large chunk of my day is spent online especially given my business. From designing websites to managing social media accounts, to creating digital strategies - yes we are a branding boutique but so much of branding is happening online now!

So how do I manage to find stillness in all this? Simply put, routines and rules.

I'll be diving deeper into my morning routine later but here are some rules I try to follow that help me detox myself from social media every now and then and allow me to go offline as well.

1. Wait then look. I never look at any devices until I start work, which is generally around 8:30 to 9:00 am. I usually rise by 5:15 -5:30 am, and spend my mornings in my routine, without any technology. This allows me to bring my focus internally and not get lost in the digital world. Which helps regain focus and set intentions for the day.

2. Signout on weekends! I rarely will log in to my work accounts on weekends. If I'm at an event that would be perfect for IGStories - I'll use my camera - and will save the posts for Monday morning if and when possible!

3. Remove devices from my bedroom. I keep my phone in my ensuite instead, this way when I'm going to bed I'm not wrapped up in scrolling mindlessly - and it helps me sleep better too!

So there you have it - 3 rules that have helped me find stillness in the digital world.
