The Do’s and Don’ts of Choosing a Social Media Platform to Market On

TikTok, Snapchat, InstaStories/IGTV/Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook - there are SO MANY Social Media platforms out there. How do you choose which one to be on and where do you start?

I’ve put together a list of do’s and don’ts on choosing the platform that is best for you!

Do - think about your brand experience and visual identity. How do you want to share your brand with the world visually? What is the essence of your service or product and where can you showcase this best?

Don’t - spread yourself thin and try and be on every single platform for the sake of being on every single platform. It never works out.

Do - understand who your target market is and where they are showing up.

Don’t - start a new social media platform because it’s the latest and greatest thing right now.

Do - go for a platform you understand, have a strategy for and you know you can commit to.

Don’t - just free for all on a few platforms for a few weeks and then jump to the next because clearly that wasn’t working. Social media takes time my friend.

At the end of the day, Social Media is part of your marketing plan but not the whole thing. Find a strategy and plan that works best for you and stay in your lane. You don’t have to copy your idols or your competition - you just have to stand out and be authentic to yourself!
