Can You Refresh a Logo You Made in Canva? Why I Rebuild It Into a Brand You Own

A full brand identity rebuild gives you an original logo, a strategy-backed brand system, and every file to own. Your Canva logo becomes the brief, and I build the brand around it in about 6 to 8 weeks.

Can I refresh a logo you made in Canva?

I rebuild it, and the result is a brand identity you own. Every project starts with strategy, moves into a logo designed from a blank page, and ends with a full system: colours, fonts, guidelines and every file.

If you're running on a logo you made in Canva, that's where we start. The colours you chose, the shapes you were drawn to and the feel you were going for all go into the brief. Then I design from scratch, so the logo is original to you and ready for the next stage of your business.

Thinking about refreshing a logo you made in Canva? Here's how I turn it into a custom brand identity you own, and what the 6 to 8 week process looks like.

Why does a rebuild give you more than a refresh?

A refresh adjusts what's already there. A rebuild starts with strategy, and that changes what you walk away with.

  • Ownership. A logo designed from scratch is yours, along with every file.

  • A full system. Your logo, colours, fonts and guidelines all work together, so your website, socials and packaging look like one brand.

  • Strategy first. We start with who you're speaking to and what you want to be known for, so the design has a reason behind every choice.

What does the rebuild process look like?

The first two to three weeks are strategy, before any design starts.

  1. Brand interview. A questionnaire that doesn't read like a typical one. I ask things like, "If your brand was a vacation spot, where would it be?" There's also a writing exercise and a visual exercise, both done on your own time.

  2. 60-minute workshop. I study your answers before we talk. I'm listening for what you haven't said yet, and that's where the best ideas come from.

  3. Competitor analysis. I study your competitors, even the big ones, so we know exactly where you stand out. The goal is to look 100% like you, never like a version of someone else.

  4. Two concepts in black and white. Two different directions, so you can pick from each or mix them. Colour waits so you're reacting to the design and not to the colour.

  5. Three rounds of feedback. Take the time you need with each one.

  6. Colour palettes. After the logo shape is approved, I present about four. Three are what you'd expect. One is the opposite of what you described. Sometimes a client says, "I didn't think I liked pink, but this feels like me." That's my favourite moment in the whole process.

  7. Brand guidelines and files. Everything gets packaged so you can use it right away.

What does a full rebuild look like in real life?

Tamara Korolnek and Crystal Short run Rosemary & May, a niche fragrance boutique in Toronto. I built their full brand identity: a Lily of the Valley icon, a customized ampersand connecting the two founders, and a colour palette named after fragrance notes.

Their words after we wrapped: "This project helped solidify our vision for Rosemary & May."

What if I love my logo and want to keep it?

Then we build around it. If you want to keep your logo and change everything else, I design a custom visual identity: colours, fonts and a full system matched to the logo you have. I'd need to see what you're working with first, and then I'd build off of it.

The investment lands close to a full brand identity, so most founders choose the full rebuild. It's your call, and I'll tell you which one I'd choose in your shoes.

What do you walk away with?

  • Your icon, primary logo and alternate logo for tight spaces

  • A colour palette with hex codes

  • A font palette, with notes on where to get each font

  • Brand guidelines covering your brand archetype, ideal client, tone of voice, imagery and how to use your logo

  • All files in PNG and EPS (the EPS is for print jobs like signage or vehicle wraps, and opens with Adobe)

Everything is yours to own.

How do I know it's time?

You'll feel it when your work is at one level and your brand is ready to match it. You have strong clients and a strong offer, and you're about to launch something new, like a website, a retreat or a program. Or you've changed your look a few times already and want one that lasts.

Our clients don't outgrow their brands. They grow into them.

My goal with every brand is to empower the founder behind it, so you walk into the room looking like the expert you already are.

FAQ

Can I refresh my Canva logo instead of a full rebrand?

I rebuild it. Your Canva logo becomes inspiration for a custom design, and you get a full brand identity built around it.

That depends on how the logo was built and the licensing terms attached to the elements used, so a trademark lawyer is the right person to confirm. What I can tell you is that a logo I design from scratch is original and yours to own.

How long does a brand identity take?

About 6 to 8 weeks from signing to final files. It includes three rounds of feedback, and I'm happy to give you more time to sit with each round.

We can build a custom visual identity around it. I'd review what you have first. Because the investment is close to a full brand, I'll tell you honestly which route makes more sense.
